About Me

Brenda Carter

My name is Brenda Olds Carter and I’m so glad you stop by!

My first love for art was as a little girl. I enjoyed getting a stick, playing in the red dirt, and mixing it with water to make mud pies. After rolling them into a ball, I place them in my little cake pans my mother had given me and put them on top of my oven made from bricks to bake in the hot sun until they were nice and firm. Little did I know at the time, I was playing with red clay. I’ve always had a love and eye for art whether it was playing with mudpies or painting,

My high school art teacher, Mrs. Bryant notice my creativity in art class, and encourage me to attend college and consider a major in Art. I took her advice and chose to attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro, North Carolina, where I received a BA Degree in Art Design/ Art Education. It was during this time I develop a deeper love for painting, under the direction of Mr. James Mc Koy and Dr. Teresa McGrady.

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

The media I’ve chose to work in is mixed media, specializing in acrylics, watercolors, and other materials such as paper, fabric, etc. I also enjoy working with stained glass, jewelry making, and fiber arts as well. My work has been featured in the Collegiate Magazine, Delta Kappa Gamma International online Art Gallery, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Alumni Art Exhibit, We Art Greensboro Exhibit, MERGE, 4101Gallery, Red Dog Gallery, and Retirement Resource Guide magazine. I am a former educator with 34 years with Guilford County Schools, 20 years with Center for Visual Arts Summer Art Camp and Adult Art Classes, and 3 years at High Point TAG. I retired from Guilford County Schools as an Elementary Art Teacher and has since focus on working on my personal artwork but because of my love for teaching children, I chose to return parttime to teach elementary art with Guilford County Schools again.

Watercolors, Liquid Acrylics, Markers, Assorted Papers, Beads, String, etc., are typically what I use when creating my paintings.

My inspirations comes from my deep love of the arts portrayed as dancers and the many techniques/styles they do, or jazz, remembering hearing the sounds of traditional jazz music as my oldest brother listen to Jimmy Smith, Miles Davis, or Nancy Wilson, etc., and Black Folk Art base on childhood and adult memories, I’ve experience over the years. Last but definitely not least, is the inspiration of my love of the Gullah people of Charleston, South Carolina.  I love the use of colorful, bright, and vibrant colors, with a whimsical design which I show by the use of lines, patterns, fabrics, which you may see in most of my paintings.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.
